WALKIES 9-12 NOVEMBER 2018

Lea (nr Ross-on-Wye), nr The Forest of Dean, Herefordshire

A few reminders of our weekend

THE USUAL SUSPECTS...

- Charlie "Path Finder" Grant
- Pete "Speed to Market" Smith
- Simon "Straight Flush" Piercy
- Tim "Wrong Side of the River" Spate
- Dave "80s Music Guru" Noble
- Steve "Vegan Stir Fry" Barker

Friday

Charlie, Simon & Tim stop-off to re-fuel the car and then decide they would like to re-fuel, also!

Our evening was spent at The Penny Farthing pub - food & beer excellent

Saturday

It's a good job Dave didn't want a bath because there was a HUGE spider in residence!

The Cottage ("The Mill House")

The Fleet

The Neighbours

We embark on a circular walk at Symonds Yat

Fossil

It's probably best that we didn't pick these for breakfast ...

... and what on earth are these?!

The River Wye

Charlie decides to go down by the riverside ...

... while the others look on (probably to see if he falls in)

Canoeists

Rapids (video)

The Fire & Rescue are out - but Steve "Fire Warden" Barker is off duty so doesn't join them

A well earned pint

Lunch

Piercy Pot Noodle Pic

On the way back to the cottage we find a herd of sheep (we presumed they were running away from Pete)

We spend the evening in The Crown Inn (including a curry in the Lea Spice restaurant within)

Officer Barker shows everyone his helmet

Sunday

Pete cooks up another superb breakfast

Puzzlewood

14 acres and 1 mile of paths, through one of Britain's only remaining ancient forests

Inspiration for JRR Tolkien's fabled forests of Middle Earth. Also used for filming of Atlantis, Merlin, Dr Who, Harry Potter and Star Wars

Resident cat

Next door was one of the biggest solar farms we'd seen - the photo barely shows half of it

Two of us are very excited to be in the same spot as a certain dark lord and his troopers!

The Usual Suspects

Walking the plank

No more sun for this flower

Sheltering from the rain shower, reading about the history and looking at the old curios

We move on to Beechenhurst and after an over-complicated couple of phone calls to get the parking paid for, we have a quick look at the "Go Ape" set-up before embarking on the Sculpture Trail

Natural sculpture

We head for home but first we stop in Mitcheldean to order pizzas for collection later - which we chose over a pint in the pub (and escaped just before the karaoke started).

We then watch some of the Manchester derby (again?!), then the Brazilian Grand Prix, before tucking in to the pizzas that Pete & Tim had been to collect. We sampled some IPA on Simon's recommendation

Afterwards we head out to The Penny Farthing, only to find it closed! So we go instead to The Crown Inn and have an enjoyable time playing the locals our own special choice of music on the juke box!

Monday

Pete kindly cooks us the remaining sausages before he dashes off. We eat sausage and egg cobs before packing up and heading home.

And finally ...

Would YOU buy a car from this man? ...
