Sedbergh, Cumbria
A few reminders of our weekend
THE USUAL SUSPECTS...
- Barrie "Bad chest" Astbury
- Charlie "Three second timer" Grant
- Pete "I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay" Smith
- Simon "Ankle grinder" Piercy
- Tim "Snore-a-tron" Spate
- Dave "Stone in the wheel" Noble
- Steve "I'm not very good at this getting-a-round-in, so I let the bar-lady-person choose your drinks" Barker
Friday
Charlie, Simon and Tim take a pit stop at the Lancaster (Forton) Services on the M6.
Originally named Forton Services, this was one of the earliest service areas to be built. The distinctive tower was originally a restaurant called The Pennine Tower, but was closed as it doesn't meet modern health and safety requirements. It is now used as office space.

The Accommodation
[ Note the first of Pete's crappy (and some would say, 'gay') lumberjack shirts. Warning: there is another one later! ]

Wet weather
Snowman
The remaining six reached a path jucntion and were faced with a familiar decision ... continue up in the adverse conditions or head back down. Like the last time, the team makes a balanced split, sending the fittest (the "Summit Group") to continue ...
... whilst the others (the "Support Group") head back.
Upon our return, as an alternative to the shower, there was this classic bath tub Not even Stevie B would dress like this
[ You were warned ]
Ten-thirty and we're all on the shorts
Tim was tired after bagging a summit earlier in the day
Not sure what the excuse was for these two though ...
And now a short quiz:- Which is bigger ... ... a dwarf daffodil (from the front porch of our cottage) ...
... or the hole in Pete's walking sock?
Sunday
Whernside walk

Dave kindly offers to keep Barrie company whilst the remaining five pile into Tim's car and drive to Dent. Dave staying behind was NOT a shock but the price of the car park certainly was! A gap appears in the mysterious low cloud, revealing a distant hill Early lambs A warning Root tunnel One tree or two? Lime kiln

Looks like fun
The view
At this point Simon unfortunately managed to turn his ankle over and felt it wise to turn back. Charlie kindly offered to accompany him back down. New walking socks for Pete? Piercy Pot Noodle Pic Balanced Success for the Summit Group Meanwhile, Charlie and Peg-Leg Piercy meet up with Barrie and Dave and head for The Dent Brewery Tap (The George & The Dragon) Barrie proceeds to try one pint of every real ale pump along the bar! Simon manages to hobble round the pool table The Usual Suspects
... with plenty of carry-outs! We head back to Sedbergh, shower and change and then pop out for a few beers. Barrie leaves early to finish preparing the evening's meal, which turned out to be smashing!
Tastey beef stew and dumplings, with all the trimmings (well, except the Yorkshire puds - oops!)
Enjoyed by all Monday
We say our fond farewells ...
... before heading home.
Another special Barrie breakfast to start our day.
My mate, Marmite! (Actually this particular one is Dave's mate.)
"The Calf" walk
Barrie had been suffering for weeks with a chest infection and the exertion of climbing the gradient was too much so, unfortunately, he had to turn back.
Panaramic plate
Frog spawn - there was loads of it (although, slightly less after those bikers had splatted plenty)
