WALKIES 10-12 MARCH 2006

Seatoller, Lake District

A few reminders of our weekend

THE USUAL SUSPECTS...

- Barrie "I pressed the 'Snow Mode' button on my new car but it still didn't clear the 2 foot drifts!" Astbury
- Charlie "C'mon lads, it looks ok to go down this way - it's not that steep..." Grant
- Pete "That's weird - without Dave being in the room, I didn't need to stomp to the loo once!" Smith
- Simon "Get out the way, you slow coach - I've got my average speed to maintain!" Piercy
- Tim "It's ok, I've got a map - we won't get lost (even though I can't see it without my glasses)" Spate
- Steve "I don't shower at weekends and I don't flush if there's not paper involved" Barker
- Derek "Hello ... goodbye." Thompson

Friday

Before we let Stevie B into the cottage, he has to prove his eligibility - so he produces his new jacket and £200 in cash (he didn't quite manage to prise a card out his many wallets)

Simon tries to start Barrie's new car by pressing the button that says "Do Not Press" but the car responds with "Sorry but the DNA I just took from the end of your finger does not match the sample given by Mr Astbury at the showroom."

(Actually it said, "Key Not Detected" !)

Double Jura & ice (the first of many!)

Barrie indicates how many double Juras he's had (so far)

Barrie attempts to convince Derek that he needs to start taking Beta Blockers

"All-in!"

Saturday

A reminder to Stevie B of what will happen to this top if he ever brings it again!

The doting father checks on his new baby

The Usual Suspects prepared and ready for the day's walk

The Day's Walk

A view back, from whence we came

"There's snow on the top of them there 'ills!"

Waterfall! (Well, I just had to get a pic of one in here somewhere!)

A panoramic view of where we were heading

A scramble up a rocky outcrop called 'Lining Crag' (and here a chance to play 'Spot-the-Timmie' - can you find him?)

At the top it was time for lunch, which can mean only one thing... the Piercy Pot Noodle Pic! (Notice how not only is this a 'KING' pot noodle but also that the flavour is cunningly appropriate for the weather conditions >>  ' ICY CURRY ' )

Ice sculptures

Well that's were we want to go - down there - but where's the path? Let's ask the navigator...

"If I can just find where we are, then I can see where to go..."

Steep descent

Finally we make it down

Clear waters

A couple of signs ...

Testement to the fact that Borrowdale is one of the wettest places in the country

No need for this if Stevie B isn't washing or flushing

Sunday

A couple of foolhardy folks venture out in the blizzards for an hour...

fool·har·dy

adjective

marked by unthinking boldness; with defiant disregard for danger or consequences

...and here's what they looked like upon their return...

All hands to dig out the Lexus!

Drift

Time to say farewell to our home-from-home: "Coombe Ghyll", 1 Mountain View, Seatoller

...and then we headed home (VERY carefully on the snow covered roads)
