RETRO GAMERS 10-11 JULY 2026 RETRO GAMERS 10-11 JULY 2026

Leeds

A few reminders of our trip

       Charlie "WHITE WATER" Grant
       Simon "MEDIEVAL MADNESS" Piercy
       Dave "ASTEROIDS" Noble
       Steve "DONKEY KONG" Barker

Friday

Simon picks-up Dave from home and Charlie & Steve from Xynomix and we set-off in the Tesla.

The place.

Simon & Charlie explained the usual Music Quiz format & rules to Dave & Steve. With Simon stepping through the tracks, Dave revealing the answers, Charlie doing the timer and Steve doing the scoring, we played along.

Even with Steve's slightly difficult to decifer notation, it was easy to see Simon was the winner.

The accommodation.

We head towards the city centre and go into the first pub we find, "Green Room".

A very rare sight ... Steve pays for a round using a bank card!

As it turns out, the pub is a regular for Simon's younger daughter, Anna, who lives & works in Leeds - and so joined us for a couple of drinks.

Above us was a giant glitter ball!

We head to Mowgli Street Food restaurant for a fabulously tasty meal.

Then Simon takes us to a 'secret' rooftop bar, accessed by a door code, which he somehow knows!

We get a good view of the Spain v Belgium World Cup quarter-final match.

We also get a great view of the sunset.

We end up back at the hotel for a nightcap.

Saturday

The view from the 11th floor hotel room.

At breakfast, Steve creates another of his trademark courses ... Nutella & banana on toast!

We head off to the Arcade Club. Four floors of retro video games, pinball machines and others. It was every bit as good as Simon had described - and even more!

Arty-farty black & white shot.

Simon tries (& tries & tries & tries & tries & then tries some more) to get the high-score on his favourite pinball machine, "YE OLDE MEDIEVAL MADNESS".

He comes so very close!

Where it all began!

Steve & Charlie getting in some laps of the motor racing track.

Charlie found his favourite pinball machine, "WHITE WATER", and after several attempts, managed to get the high-score.

Charlie then found his favourite video game, "STAR WARS", that he used to play in the junior common room of Fylde College at University of Lancaster.

Despite not having played it for 40 years, he managed one of his best ever scores.

Virtual reality. (Video)

We take a lunch break, heading over to Morrisons cafe (and noting Simon's poor attempt at parking).

We went back for a few more hours of fun ... including watching this granny double-gunning on a shoot-em-up game!

At one point, the Retro Gamers had monopolised the entire ASTEROIDS leader board.

On the way out of the door, Charlie could not resist having a go on GUITAR HERO and, on one song, almost got the high score.

Then it was time to head home ...

We stop for a top-up and a drink. Steve is allowed to do the plugging-in and unplugging.

We get back to Xynomix and Dave gives Simon & Charlie a tour. Guess whose desk this is???

(Send your answers to "Six-Screen Steve Competition")

And so ended a fab trip!
